Karen Krasne’s Extraordinary Desserts (San Diego, CA)

queeniedarleen:

We were given gift certificates to go try Extraordinary Desserts , and I have to say, I was delighted. The stunning cakes, pastries and garnish, all showed some finesse. And the dim lights, white candles and minimalistic decor made the experience even more enjoyable.

Each slices of cake is plated beautifully and adorned with fresh flowers, fruits, chocolate shavings and/or a fruity or chocolate sauce, depending upon cake flavor. Strudel-like desserts are served with a scoop of ice cream.

Being the chocolate lover that I am, I fell for the mouthwatering Gianduia— made with rum laced chocolate cake, hazelnut buttercream, chocolate mousse, boysenberry preserves and crushed pralines. But if chocolate is not your thing, then you might want to try Ivoire Royale, Passion Fruit Ricotta, Blood Orange Ricotta, the crème brulée, or the understated but ridiculously good Blueberry Cheesecake Coffee Cake.

Those in the San Diego vicinity should consider picking up a cake from Extraordinary Desserts next time there’s a special occasion or dinner party to host— I promise it’ll be a hit. Do keep in mind that whole cakes have to be ordered in advance.

Extraordinary Desserts is located at 1430 Union Street, San Diego, CA.
